Jets ramp up efforts to trade Sheldon Richardson, Calvin Pryor

One day after using the No. 6 overall pick on safety Jamal Adams, the New York Jets are renewing their efforts to trade a couple other former first-round selections.

The Jets have made calls about dealing defensive end Sheldon Richardson and safety Calvin Pryor, people with knowledge of the trade talks told USA TODAY Sports.

Teams have known both players are available since last year, but the price has now dropped, with Richardson and Pryor each believed to be available for a mid-round pick, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because talks were confidential.

Trading either for a 2017 draft choice could be tricky, since interested teams wouldn’t have time to talk contract or put the players through a physical before signing off on a deal. Richardson is entering the fifth-year option on his deal; Pryor has one year left and then the option, which the Jets have yet to pick up.

The Jets have undergone a roster overhaul this offseason and both Richardson (the No. 13 overall pick in 2013) and Pryor (No. 18 in 2014) predate the Mike Maccagnan-Todd Bowles era.
