No. 3 Kansas outlasts No. 4 Baylor again, tightens Big 12 grip

In a tug-of-war battle between two potential NCAA tournament No. 1 seeds — in  a matchup with Big 12 title implications — No. 3 Kansas outlasted No. 4 Baylor, 67-65.

Kansas Jayhawks forward Landen Lucas (33) looks to pass as Baylor Bears guard King McClure (22) defends during the first half at Ferrell Center.

KU Big man Landen Lucas, a 59% free-throw shooter, sunk two freebies with 11 seconds left to clinch the victory.

Kansas (24-3, 12-2), in quest of its 13th consecutive regular-season title, took a commanding lead — a three-game cushion with four games to go — in the conference race by sweeping the second-place Bears (22-5, 9-5), who have now lost four of six.

National player of the year candidate Frank Mason III had 23 points and eight assists to lead the Jayhawks, while electrifying freshman Josh Jackson had 16 points with some highlight-reel dunks. Johnathan Motley paced Baylor with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Kansas never led until Mason's jumper with 10:56 left made it 49-47.
