Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith (5) shoots over the outstretched arm of Bucks guard Jason Terry during Tuesday's game.

With 3:03 remaining in the second quarter of Tuesday's game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, both teams headed to their respective benches for a timeout. When play resumed, Matthew Dellavedova found Tony Snell wide open in the lane for an uncontested dunk.

How did he get so open? J.R. Smith left the court to say hello to Jason Terry and give him a hug out of bounds near the Bucks' bench.

That play marked the start of a 7-0 Bucks run and the incident immediately went viral. After the game, Terry said there really wasn't anything to it. When asked what happened with Smith coming over to say hello, Terry said, “That’s it, you got it."

Some might wonder if Terry, a savvy veteran playing in his 18th season, might have planned that interaction coming out of the timeout. He says that wasn't the case.

“Nah, I was just saying what’s up, that’s it," Terry said, noting he didn't know play had restarted. "Totally harmless."

For his part, Smith, who was dressed as his "alter ego," didn't have much of an explanation for that play when asked about it after the game.

Bucks head coach Jason Kidd said he didn't see it in real time, but would have to check it out on film since his players were talking about it after the game.

"I just saw Tony laying the ball up," Kidd said. "I thought Tony made a heck of a cut and that's all I saw. ... He was probably just saying hi to Jet."

Giannis Antetokounmpo, who had 34 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, five assists and two blocks in Milwaukee's 118-101 victory, made light of the situation when speaking in the locker room after the game.

"Oh yeah, that was a timeout play," Antetokounmpo said. "Jason told Jet, 'Occupy him and...' No. I'm joking."
