Sacramento Kings forward Matt Barnes is at the center of a New York police investigation after an alleged confrontation at a New York City nightclub early Monday morning, USA TODAY Sports confirmed.

Sacramento Kings forward Matt Barnes is at the center of an investigation over an incident at a night club in New York.

Police received reports that a man inside a Chelsea neighborhood club choked a woman and two others --- a man and a woman --- were assaulted as they attempted to intervene. Footage of the incident obtained by investigators appears to show Barnes was the assailant, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation who is not authorized to speak publicly because the investigation is ongoing.

"We continue to cooperate fully with the authorities," Barnes' attorney, Alex Spiro told USA TODAY Sports.

Barnes said on his Instagram account that "there's always two sides of a story."

In a story by the Sacramento Bee, Spiro said: "We do not believe a crime was committed. We are cooperating with law enforcement and are hopeful no charges will be pressed."

TMZ, the first outlet to detail the incident, reported  that Barnes and another teammate were not at the club when police arrived.

Barnes had two points, an assist and three rebounds as the Kings fell to the New York Knicks, 106-98, at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

A message left with the Kings was not immediately returned, but the team released the following statement Monday afternoon.

"We have clear standards of conduct and behavior expected of the entire Kings organization – on and off the court. We are working with all parties involved to gather information in order to take any appropriate next steps."
