O'Toole became the 18th wrestler in state history to win four individual state titles and just the third to do so in Division 1. He did so in dominating fashion, pinning all four opponents at 160 pounds at state to finish his senior year with a perfect 49-0 record. O'Toole won his last 111 matches as a Warhawk and each of his final 17 matches were won by fall.

In October 2019, O'Toole earned the No. 1 ranking nationally in his weight class with a win by technical fall at "Who's Number 1",  a showcase featuring the best high-school wrestlers in the country to determine who gets the top ranking.

O’Toole will follow in the footsteps of his club coaches Ben and Max Askren, also Arrowhead graduates and state champions, and wrestle at Missouri next year.

He is the first Wisconsin wrestler to win the award and one of a select few from the state to ever be named a high school national player of the year in their sport.
