At the Greater Metro Conference tournament on May 18 and 19, the Hamilton tennis team placed fifth with 20 team points. Alex Moore advanced to the winning bracket of No. 1 singles in the tournament with a great three-set victory over Brookfield Central's Josh Fernandez. The win led to a matchup with David Horneffer from Brookfield East, who is a former state singles champion.
Even though Moore lost the match, 6-0, 6-0, the freshman took fourth.
'This was a great experience for Alex,' Hamilton coach Alan Schneider said. 'Playing against such a hard hitter should set him up well for subsectionals and sectionals.'
Also taking fourth was the No. 3 doubles team of Andy O'Neill and Connor Rhodes.
'Each week, this team has grown stronger, finishing the season with an 8-3 record at No. 3 doubles and the fourth place-finish at conference,' Schneider said.
At a tournament at Brookfield Central on May 20 and 21, Hamilton defeated Xavier, 6-1. The singles lineup all picked up victories, which included Moore at the first flight, Sam Smith at the second, Chris Anderson at No. 3 and Tony Moore at the fourth flight.
Josh Anderson and Nick Pellechia were victorious at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (5), 7-5 and O'Neill and Rhodes won at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-0.
Against Waukesha North, Hamilton lost, 4-3. Alex and Tony Moore picked up wins for the Chargers.
