In a well-deserved turn, the Germantown School Board declared Oct. 24 Becca Murray Day in the district.

Impressive achievements for the 2008 graduate of Germantown High School include: three time NCAA national champion, two-time NCAA Collegiate Player of the Year honors and two-time Paralympic Gold Medalist in wheelchair basketball. Most recently, in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, she was the leading scorer for the American team in the finals, scoring 33 of the team’s points in Team USA’s 62-45 gold-medal victory over Germany.

As a result of the board declaration, each Germantown District school had a special presentation and commemoration. The high school started the process and had a special assembly featuring Murray during first hour Oct. 24.

Murray's speech at the high school had an educational approach to it as she referred to various district initiatives and how they tied into her own personal story. The main idea was that hard work, perseverance, and seeing challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow make all the difference in accomplishing anything one puts their mind to.
