New Germantown girls tennis coach Vincent Daniels will build around two-time WIAA state tournament qualifier Marissa Marks as he looks to replace eight starters from last season.

"This year will be about establishing a culture that grows into traditions," he said. "We have a lot to replace in losing key players Emma Brandenburg and Taylor Sackett (first doubles) and Casey Reisch (third singles/first doubles). We were fortunate to have a few kids on JV (junior varsity) put in a lot of off-season work to make the lineup. We also have a youth movement this year with four freshman making varsity (Melina Kopischkie, Maddie Ryczek, Ashley Pallan and Annie Mao). It is always a good feeling returning your first singles player (Marissa Marks) who has been to state twice already."

Marks (19-9 last season) is a four-year letter winner and has been at first singles her whole career. Other returnees include junior Jayden Bogner (third-year varsity player). She played second singles last year and is likely to switch to first doubles this fall. Others back include sophomore Josie Coulthurst, senior Emily Li, and junior Shivali Zala, who played fourth singles last year.

"We don't have a fully established lineup yet," Daniels said. "We still have some tinkering to do with our doubles (lineup)."

The Warhawks played in the Wauwatosa Hart Park Invite on Aug. 15 and 16.
