Former Michigan cornerback Jourdan Lewis' trial date has changed.

Lewis, who faces one misdemeanor charge of domestic violence from an alleged incident March 15, is now scheduled for a 15th District Court jury trial to begin July 24 and continue to July 25 if necessary.

At his pretrial hearing last Wednesday, it was set for July 10-11. But it was changed Friday to the new dates, though still in Judge Elizabeth Pollard Hines' courtroom. Lewis, who attended the pretrial hearing, is scheduled for a settlement conference July 20.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. July 24 with the trial following at 2:30 p.m.

Lewis pleaded not guilty at his March 16 arraignment.

According to the online court record, the attorneys requested new dates.

Police interviews with Lewis and the woman, his girlfriend of three years, laid out the parallel stories.

The alleged incident occurred between Lewis and his girlfriend of three years when he came home the night of March 15 and a dispute started about a light being left on. Lewis hid in the closet when the conversation became heated and both parties stated there was physical contact, though they differed on the nature of it.

The woman said Lewis dragged her across the living room floor and then grabbed her by the neck and held her down on the floor for about three seconds. In his interview, Lewis stated he may have grabbed her neck while trying to get her off him but had no intentions to hurt her. Lewis stated at no time was he trying to assault her, he was trying to leave.

Lewis and his attorney, John Shea, declined to speak to reporters after last week's hearing.

Lewis is slated to be an early-round pick in next week's draft, April 27-29. NFL team representatives were in Ann Arbor for U-M's pro day on March 24, so Lewis was available for conversations.

His only public comment was a since-deleted tweet that stated: "It's sad that somebody would want to control you so bad they would ruin your life over it."
