Town of Lisbon — Park officials aren't worried whether there will be snow on the ground during the annual Lisbon Winterfest event set for Saturday, Jan. 28, because there will still be plenty of fun activities for families to do at no cost.
The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lisbon Community Park, N78W26970 Bartlett Parkway, and is put on by the Lisbon Park Committee, which provides free refreshments like hot chocolate and cider.
Participants can stay warm around the bonfire, ice skate in the park's skating rink, pet sled dogs, roast hot dogs and marshmallows and socialize with neighbors.
Town Park Chairman Marlene Kumitsch started the event five years ago to give local families a chance to have fun when the days are short and the weather is unpredictable.
"It’s for people to come to the park to get together and meet their neighbors," Kumitsch said. "This is Wisconsin; what do we do in the state over the winter? Not everyone wants to go sledding and not everyone is capable of doing it, but we have a bonfire and it’s a great social thing. We’ll even be toasting marshmallows like we used to do as kids. It’s a really fun family event.”
Last year's event drew in a record-breaking crowd of 120-150 people.
Kumitsch said one of the crowd favorites is always the large tarp sled that multiple people can sit on and sled down the hill together; it's that spirit of fun and unity that keeps the event going year after year.
