A new event has been added to the annual Lisbon Heritage Weekend, set for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-14, at Lisbon Community Park off Lake Five and Oakwood roads.

Both days, at noon and 2 p.m., there will be a tram ride to the nearby historic Merton/Lisbon Union Cemetery to learn, through re-enactors, about the lives of some famous local people buried there. Presented and honored will be Civil War Union Pvt. John Bull, World War II nurse Elaine Dobberton, World War I doughboy Mileo Brown, and the founder of the Merton Baptist Church, John Cady.

Back at the park, the Sussex-Lisbon Area Historical Society will again have a display. Some of the featured displays will be locally found arrowheads and stories about where in Sussex and Lisbon these artifacts turned up and are still being found.

The SLAHS will also have a display of 350 million-year-old massive fossils from the Silurian period of the Paleozoic Era that were found locally.
