Village of Menomonee Falls — Malissa Misch often poses a question to her self-defense students: "What would you do if you were attacked in a parking lot by a man?"
Misch said women in her courses typically said they would scream or freeze up.
Misch, a National Rifle Association certified instructor and owner of MK Protection Strategies, is working to empower women in the community by starting a women's-only concealed-carry course.
"I just want people to feel as confident as I do because it is so empowering for me to make people feel safer," Misch said. "I’m teaching life-saving skills here; it’s just such a rewarding thing for me.”
The course will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Comfort Suites at 10831 W. Park Place. The training will be four hours and will cover firearm safety rules; safe firearm and ammunition use, handling, transport and storage; legally permissible possession, transportation, and use of firearms, including use of deadly force; and techniques for avoiding and controlling violent confrontations.
“Most people taking a concealed carry class are very new to firearms," Misch said. "They may not necessarily know the safety measures that need to be taken, or how the gun functions. They do not have a level of awareness, but the outcome of our training is really amazing."
The women-only concealed-carry course is $75 per person.
