Village of Menomonee Falls - Flossie Gones can tell you what it's like to have lived a century.

She was born in 1916, and will celebrate her 100th birthday on Aug.29.

“It took me a long time to get here," Gones said. "I’ve learned a lot, and I hope when my time comes, I still have all my buttons."

Gones is an advocate for leading an active lifestyle.

She lives by the motto, "A body in motion stays in motion."

Gones has been going to the Tri-County YMCA for more than 20 years. She exercises four days a week and twice a week at the Arboretum Senior Living Center, where she resides. Her daughter, Jackie Fruth, said she regularly encourages all the new residents to be active so they will lead a much happier lifestyle.

According to her grandson, Mike Brachs, Gones still drives herself to church every Sunday, and has played the lead in plays at the Arboretum, including Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz" and the witch in "Prince and the Frog."

Her family and friends held a party for her Aug. 7 at the Trysting Place Pub, where family came in from Arizona, Tennessee and Florida. They said they would not miss her party for the world, according to Fruth.

The Arboretum will have a birthday party for Gones on Monday, Aug. 29.
