Bonnie Watson Coleman to host interfaith prayer vigil on Inauguration Day
SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12th district) will host an interfaith prayer vigil on Friday in lieu of her attendance at the Presidential inauguration ceremonies.
“The constituents of the New Jersey’s Twelfth District is a cross section of the many groups and millions of Americans that this incoming Administration has turned its back on," Watson Coleman said in a news release. "Our nation is founded on democracy and inclusion that unfortunately our president-elect refuses to represent. I can think of no more important place to be than supporting my constituents and renewing my energy to fight for their freedoms.”

The interfaith prayer vigil will take place at Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton and is open to the public. Watson Coleman will be joined by faith leaders, community activists and residents of the surrounding communities. She made this announcement while participating in "United Communities," a Town Hall hosted on Saturday by the Islamic Society of Central Jersey. Watson Coleman was joined on the panel by members of the state legislature and the South Brunswick Chief of Police.
"This is not a decision I take lightly," Watson Coleman said. "The peaceful transition of power is a defining characteristic of our democracy. Inaugurations should serve as a celebration of the best of our nation — a symbol of unity and strength. Unfortunately, it is increasingly clear that President-elect Trump is not just unfit for office, but his actions and promises threaten the very democracy for which we are supposed to gather to celebrate. I simply cannot in good conscious participate."
On Saturday, Jan. 21, Watson Coleman will participate in the Women’s March on New Jersey in Trenton.
