Literary Society

The Maple Literary Society, a senior readers book club, will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, to discuss “Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter,” by Kate Clifford Larson.

The group meets in the Sussex Community Center, W240 N5765 Maple Ave., Sussex, on the third Monday of each month. All books are on hold at the Pauline Haass Public Library.

Spice program

The Friends of the Pauline Haass Public Library will host “The Lure and Lore of Spices” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the library, N64 W23820 Main St., Sussex.

Presented by the Spice House of Milwaukee, the program will feature facts, anecdotes and tales through tales of piracy, adventures and war. Reservations are required.

Grief Group meets

The St. James Bereavement Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the Boneyard Pub and Grille, N64 W23189 Main St., Sussex.

The group meets the third Friday of every other month for a fish fry at the restaurant. Those interested in attending must call ahead to reserve a spot.

Tree pick-up

Sussex and Lisbon are picking up Christmas trees through the end of the month. Those interested in pick-up service can place unwrapped trees near the roadside, and call their town hall or civic center for more details.

Pantry needs

The Sussex Outreach Service's (SOS) Food Pantry, N64 W23760 Main St., Sussex, is in need of specific donations.

The pantry is in need of chunky and Progresso soups, tomato products such as spaghetti sauce, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce, macaroni and cheese, canned chicken, canned pastas such as ravioli, canned beans, spaghetti noodles, 64-ounce bottles of juice (no grape), oatmeal, toilet paper, dish soap and size five and six diapers.

The pantry is open for donations from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. The entrance to SOS is on the east side of the Sussex Civic Center. There is also a new shed outside the door for donations made after hours.
