Village of Sussex - The Hamilton School Board appointed Jay Jones at its Aug. 3 special meeting to fill the Lannon seat that was formerly held by Jim Long.

Jones will take his oath of office Aug. 15 at the school board meeting.

“Serving as a school board member is an opportunity to give back to the Hamilton community to which I belong,” Jones said.

He is a 10-year resident of Lannon, and has two children at Lannon Elementary School. Jones was a district employee from 2006-08 as a network engineer and computer support technician.

Jones will serve out Long's board term, ending in April. Long stepped down from the board effective July 19 because he lives in Florida for a portion of the year. He served as a board member since 1990, and said it was an honor and privilege to serve the district on behalf of children.

The Hamilton School Board has seven seats representing five municipalities and two at-large posts.
