Recently, I have been re-investigating my memories of my days of hunting for arrowheads, both locally and in the Waterford and Big Bend areas. I remember taking my son along and explaining what to look for and how as we traversed the young, emerging corn field rows in early June. My son, in his enthusiasm, picked up many different stones, and finally I had to explain to him that his most recent find a very rare piece of “leaverite” and marvel at his enthusiasm. Then to finish it off, I told him that the recent corn planting process had popped this ancient piece of “leaverite stone” to the surface and the name, given to it by rock hounds, is “leaverite.” That’s Latin for “leave it right there.”

Gasoline station bathrooms are generally getting better and better. However, I can remember in recent years when it was expected that you would have to ask for a key to use the restroom. You just knew you were in trouble when they handed you a key attached to a foot-long paddle; that their bathrooms were just one step above an original two-holer outhouse. Thank goodness, times have changed for the most part.

At my age, I have been able to observe a lot of women hunting for husbands. I know that many of them are looking for the perfect man, as in very rich and 102 years old, give or take a few years.

Wow, bacon is everywhere. There are even first aid kits that have Band Aids that look like bacon strips. However, it is a very sad day when sometimes imitation bacon bits taste better than real bacon.

At my age, I can work really hard, but it seems to be really hard to get started.
