Registration for the Hamilton School District's popular Summer Opportunities Program runs from Wednesday, Feb. 22, through March 24.
The program is designed to provide enrichment, enjoyment, skill maintenance and development for students entering 4-year-old kindergarten through eighth grade. The program also provides middle school and high school enrichment opportunities, credit, make-up courses, strength and agility training and driver's education. Class descriptions, schedules, transportation and more will be available Monday, Feb. 20, on the district's website at www.hamilton.k12.wi.us under "Student Learning and Services."

The friends of the Pauline Haass Public Library will present “The History of Public Libraries” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the library, N64 W23820 Main St., Sussex.
When communities were building libraries for public use, Andrew Carnegie donated funds for the construction of 1,689 libraries across America, including 65 in Wisconsin. Tomi Fay Forbes, whose interest in history has taken her to many Carnegie libraries, will present details of architecture, historic backgrounds and show photos of some of the buildings. The parking lot entrance is at the stoplight at Piggly Wiggly.

A Service of Ashes will be held at 5:30 p.m. followed by a 6:30 p.m. dinner. Two recipes of gumbo and more will be offered.

The Sussex Outreach Service's Food Pantry, N64 W23760 Main St., is in need of the following items: pasta (such as bow tie, shells and spaghetti), pasta and rice sides, cereal, beef broth, pancake mix, syrup, canned chicken, Mandarin oranges, baked beans, Manwich, macaroni and cheese, beef ramen noodles, mixed vegetables and Jell-O.
Donations hours are 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the side door (ring the doorbell during these hours). For after hours, use the donation shed provided by the side door, but be aware of extreme weather conditions — the shed is not heated or cooled.
