Confederate monuments are not only in the Deep South

A memorial outside Fort Warren's walls is dedicated to the thirteen Confederate prisoners who died there. The Boston Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy erected this memorial in 1963. The fort is on Georges Island near Boston.

The statue was erected in 1948, twenty years after Ferguson's death due to the Great Depression and World War II.  Maryland was a border state during the Civil War. A slave state that did not secede from the Union and did not join the Confederacy.
